FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Senior
C.J. Bula (Mohegan Lake, NY) and sophomore
Mike Dolce (St. James, NY) combined on a one-hitter as the Farmingdale State baseball team blanked Western New England 2-0 Saturday evening (March 3).
The Rams are now 4-4 while the Golden Bears are 1-1.
With his team ahead 2-0, Bula took a no-hitter into the eighth before senior catcher
Tyler Issadore (Hingham, MA) singled to lead-off the inning. Sophomore
Ryan Govoni (Southington, CT) came in to pinch-run with one out, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Junior right-fielder
Matt Anthonis (Guilford, CT) walked to put the tying runs on base. Govoni was then caught attempting to score when the ball got past senior catcher
Frank Scarlato (Holbrook, NY) who threw to Bula for the second out.
Dolce entered the game and Anthonis was caught attempting to steal second to end the threat.
Farmingdale State scored its first run in the fourth when Scarlato walked with the bases loaded off junior pitcher
Jeff Richardson (Simsbury, CT). The Rams added an unearned run against senior relief pitcher
Mark DiTommaso (Hebron, CT) in the sixth.
Bula walked four and fanned nine in seven-and-two thirds innings while Dolce had a strikeout in getting the final four outs.
Richardson allowed only three hits with four walks and five strikeouts in five innings. DiTommaso gave up a hit and struck out two in three innings.
Issadore also had a walk in his three appearances at the plate.
