NEWPORT, R.I – Freshman midfielder
Jessica Scannapieco (Blue Bell, PA) scored six goals as the Western New England women's lacrosse team broke a four-game skid with a 13-8 victory over Salve Regina Saturday (Mar. 31).
The Golden Bears, who dropped an 18-17 decision to Gordon on Wednesday, are now 4-6 overall and 1-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). The Seahawks are 6-3, but 0-2 in conference play.
Scannapieco, who also had five draw controls, fired in three of her goals in the opening 7:40 as the Golden Bears took a 5-0 lead. She hit the net at the 9:29 mark to make the score 7-2 and WNE went on to take an 8-4 lead at halftime.
SRU got within 10-6 when junior midfielder
Kelly Burke (Georgetown, MA) scored on free position shot with 15:03 to play.
Neither team scored for almost nine minutes until Scannapieco scored twice in a 32-second span to give Western New England a 12-6 advantage with 6:24 left.

Liz McRoberts (Bourne, MA) added two goals while sophomore attacker
Ali Pepe (North Reading, MA) contributed a goal and two assists. McRoberts also picked-up three ground balls.
