FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Freshman Trevor Breton (Enfield, CT) allowed only three hits in seven innings in his collegiate debut as the Western New England baseball team blanked MIT 1-0 Sunday afternoon (March 4).

Breton, who was an All-Central Connecticut Conference selection at Fermi High School last year, walked two and had three strikeouts in gaining his first collegiate win. He pitched out of a jam in the second inning starting a double play with runners on first and third. Breton also recorded a key strikeout with a runner on second to end the sixth.

Last year Breton posted a 6-1 mark and 1.26 ERA in helping Fermi capture its first CCC Championship.

Senior Mike Lawlor (Windsor, CT) pitched the final two innings allowing only two hits with a walk and three strikeouts in gaining his second save of the season.

The Golden Bears (2-1) scored the only run of the game when senior catcher Tyler Issadore (Hingham, MA) led-off the third with a single up the middle. Sophomore left-fielder Jeff Schult (Wappingers Falls, NY) singled to move Issadore up a base.

After two outs, junior third baseman Mike Rubino (Northford, CT) delivered a run-scoring single to right for his second game-winning hit in three games.

MIT sophomore Kiel Jindra (Oceanside, CA) also pitched well giving up six hits in six innings with two walks and seven strikeouts. Senior shortstop Bryan Macomber (Los Altos, CA) had two of the team's five hits.

The Engineers are now 0-2.
