Mike Taylor (Andover, MA) and junior third baseman
Tim Clark (West Springfield, MA) each homered as the Western New England baseball team defeated Wentworth 13-5 in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday (Apr. 14) at Gordon College. The Leopards scored a pair of unearned runs in the sixth inning of the opener for a 4-3 victory.
This was the first loss in eight games for Western New England in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). The Golden Bears are 17-9 overall. Wentworth is 15-13 and 6-4 in conference contests.

Senior lefty
Adam Farrar (Newport, VT) (2-2) had a complete game performance allowing nine hits with a pair of walks and six strikeouts. Junior center fielder
Alex Wong (Lewiston, ME) had the game-winning hit with two outs in the sixth. He finished with two hits and scored a run. Senior right fielder
Justin Bolla (Groveland, MA) and freshman third baseman
Joe Hulme (Tewksbury, MA) each had two singles.
Western New England took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by junior third baseman
Mike Rubino (Northford, CT) and went ahead 2-0 in the second on a RBI single by sophomore designated hitter
Taylor Searles (Seymour, CT) who had two hits.
Junior shortstop
Kyle McKelvey (Schenectady, NY) went 3-for-3 and scored a run. Sophomore
Brendan Nugent (Milford, CT) gave up six hits and four runs in five-and-a-third innings. He walked two and fanned three. Senior reliever
Mike Lawlor (Windsor, CT) (1-2) took the loss.
Game 2 – Western New England 13, Wentworth 5
The Golden Bears pounded out 12 hits with Clark going 4-for-4 with five RBI. His three-run homer gave WNE a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Searles had another nice performance with a pair of singles, two RBI, and run scored. Sophomore first baseman
Steve Ambrosino (Laurel Hollow, NY) contributed to the win with two singles and a pair of RBI. He also scored three times.
Taylor smacked a solo blast in the second for a 4-0 lead before Wentworth gave back to cut the margin to 6-3 after three innings.
The Golden Bears broke the game open with seven runs in the fourth thanks to a couple of two-run singles by Ambrosino and Searles.
Junior
Kevin Jefferis (Cheshire, CT) evened his mark at 2-2 after permitting four runs (three earned) and eight hits with two walks, and three strikeouts.
Wong had another two-hot outing for the Leopards while senior shortstop
Conner Flisnik (Marcy, NY) also singled twice. Both players scored a run and had a RBI.
