Corbett Corrigan Harreys (Essex, CT) scored the game-winner with 51.3 seconds left in the second overtime period as No. 15 Western New England posted a 6-5 victory over Connecticut College Wednesday (May 9) in a first round game of the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship.
Junior midfielder J
ames Reardon (Longmeadow, MA) assisted on the winning shot as the Golden Bears (13-4) advanced to a second-round contest this Saturday (May 12) against No. 7 Rochester Institute of Technology (an 18-4 winner over New England College in Rochester, New York.
Senior attacker
Patrick White (Milton, MA) tied the game for WNE with his third goal of the game at 6:25 of the fourth period. Senior midfielder
Joe O'Keefe (Branford, CT) earned the assist.
There was no scoring for the opening 11 minutes, 20 seconds until the two squads combined for four goals and a 2-2 tie after the opening quarter.
Sophomore attacker
Owen Caruso (Port Washington, NY) gave Western New England a 1-0 lead at the 3:20 mark. Senior midfielder
Andrew Mariani (East Brunswick, NJ) had the assist.
The Camels (10-7) tallied the next two goals starting when freshman attacker Briggs Barton (Rye, NY) had an unassisted goal with 2:36 left. Senior midfielder
Drew Green (Bryn Mawr, PA) then hit the net with five seconds remaining with an assist from sophomore attacker J
R Hartgers (Franklin Lakes, NJ).
But as Western New England has done so many times this season senior midfielder
Joe Martin (Springfield, MA) captured the ensuing faceoff and passed to White who scored just before the buzzer sounded.
There was no scoring in the second stanza before the Golden Bears scored twice in a 59-second span to take the biggest lead of the game at 4-2. Harreys (with an assist from White) scored at 12:43 and then White netted his second goal at 11:44 following an assist from senior midfielder
Nick Jez (Somers, CT).
The Camels answered with three straight goals to take a 5-4 advantage after three periods.

ohn Lyons (Barrington, RI) had an unassisted goal at 9:22 and scored again at 4:08 with an assists from junior attacker
Andrew Freedman (Sudbury, MA). Freedman then gave the hosts their last lead with an assist from junior attacker
Tyler Corcoran (Simsbury, CT) with 25 seconds left.
Western New England's defense then held Connecticut College scoreless the rest of the way.

Brewster Knowlton (Somers, CT) finished with 10 saves for the Golden Bears. Martin was seven-for-14 in faceoffs and picked-up three ground balls along with junior defender

Rob Moccia (Malvern, PA) compiled eight saves while senior midfielder
Chuck Czerkawski (Cohasset, MA) took nine-of15 faceoffs.
The Camels had a 30-25 advantage in shots and both teams totaled 14 ground balls apiece in the closely-contested game.
Earlier this season, Western New England took a 6-5 decision over Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rival Roger Williams.
