SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Junior
Dan Monahan and sophomore
Brandon Stroud each registered three points on two goals and an assist on Tuesday evening, but it wasn't enough as the Western New England University men's hockey team let several leads slip away in a 7-6 non-conference loss at the hands of visiting Skidmore College at Smead Rink. The Golden Bears fall to 6-6 on the season while the Thoroughbreds improve to 7-6-2.
Skidmore's special teams shined during the second half of the game, netting a pair of goals during a 5-minute major power play 35 seconds apart late in the middle stanza to tie it at 3-3 and then scoring a shorthanded tally to make it 5-5 in the third.
Zach Menard scored his second goal of the game just 1 minute and 24 seconds after teammate Vlad Gavrik's unassisted goal to give SC its first lead, 6-5. Gavrik added an empty-net goal for insurance.
Western New England held leads of 3-1, 4-3 and 5-4.
The Golden Bears held a slight edge with shots on goal, 38-35.
