Box Score
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Senior
Ryan Marcus came off the bench to join junior
Adam Knapton with three points on a goal and two assists each to lead the Western New England University men's lacrosse team to an 11-9 victory Wednesday evening over a pesky Roger Williams University side at Golden Bear Stadium. The Golden Bears improve to 6-5 on the season, including 4-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference standings, while the Hawks slide to 6-5 and 4-1 in the league.
Western New England also got two goals apiece from senior
Nick Jez, junior
Sean Lawton and sophomore
Jon Bota.
The teams were identical in scoring by quarters with two apiece in the first, two again in the third and five each in the final stanza. But Bota and Jez, with a man-up, found the back of the net for the Golden Bears in the second quarter, who led 4-2 at halftime.
Senior
Aaron Harris led the WNE defense with four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Face-off man Alan Williams scooped a game-high 10 ground balls and went 15-for-22 in the "X" for the Hawks, who were outshot 46 to 28.
After Knapton scored the final goal with 4 minutes and 22 seconds remaining, Western New England was able to keep Roger Williams off the scoreboard. The Hawks finished with three turnovers, one shot and one ill-advised 1-minute slashing penalty late.
