Junior Adam Knapton Scores Six Points in 11-4 CCC Win at Wentworth

Box Score BOSTON--Junior attacker Adam Knapton had season highs of four goals and six points, and sophomore goalkeeper stopped 11 shots, to propel Western New England to an 11-4 victory Tuesday over host Wentworth in Commonwealth Coast Conference men's lacrosse action at Sweeney Field. The Golden Bears up their record to 8-5 overall and 6-0 in the CCC standings, while the Leopards saw their four-game win streak come to an end to fall to 10-3 and 3-3.

Sophomore Brandon Body was solid in the WNE goal by making 11 saves. Senior Brian Leistikow (4 ground balls) and junior Jack Liacos (4 ground balls, 3 caused turnovers) helped lead a Golden Bears defense that limited Wentworth to 22 shots and tied a season-low for goals allowed.

Knapton scored the Golden Bears' first two goals, coming 1 minute and 46 seconds apart early in the first quarter. The Leopards made it a 2-1 game on a junior Steve Glover goal with 10:34 left before sophomore George Knapp extended the lead to 3-1 with his goal with 6:55 left in the quarter.

Off the opening faceoff of the second half, Wentworth freshman Tim Parlato won the draw and scored to make it 4-2.

The Golden Bears scored four straight goals to extend the lead to 8-2 as junior Owen Caruso, Knapton, senior Ryan Marcus and junior Sean Lawton all scored.

Wentworth scored two goals in a 44-second span as junior Chris Kipp and freshman Nick Parent scored early in the fourth before Knapton, Knapp and sophomore Jake Fishter rounded out the scoring.

Knapp finished with two goals and an assist and Marcus added two goals in the win. Senior Corey Johnson picked up five ground balls and junior Nicky Donovan won eight face-offs.

Four different players – Parent, Glover, Parlato and Kipp – tallied for the Leopards. Parlato collected seven ground balls and won 10 face-offs, while junior Jared Proulx made 14 saves.

Western New England finished with 38-22 shot advantage and a 38-37 ground ball advantage, while Wentworth held a 10-9 faceoff advantage.

Both teams are in action on Saturday as Western New England is at Curry and Wentworth is at Roger Williams.
