BOSTON--The Western New England University women's tennis team opened Tuesday's Commonwealth Coast Conference match at Wentworth Institute of Technology by capturing two of three doubles matches, but the Golden Bears couldn't sustain that momentum going into singles play in a 6-3 loss to the Leopards at the Harvard University Courts.
With the win the Leopards even their record to 4-4 overall and stand at 2-3 in the CCC, surpassing the number of wins by last season's team that ended up 3-10. The Golden Bears slip to 3-6 and 0-5 in the conference.
Senior
Kelsey Grode, who celebrated a birthday today, teamed with sophomore
Kelly Byrnes to give WNE a 1-0 lead with an 8-5 win at No. 3 over Wentworth senior Olivia Hegner and junior Val Maccarone. The Golden Bears extended their lead to 2-0 after the No. 1 doubles team of freshman
Joeanna Glantz and graduate student
Linda Mustafa defeated sophomore Caitlin Corcoran and junior Virginia Ofer, 8-6.
