TROY, N.Y.--Senior Lindsey Brudvig won two matches for Western New England, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Bears women's tennis squad lost a close match at The Sage Colleges, 5-4, on Thursday afternoon at Prospect Park. The Gators improve to 6-3 overall, while WNE lost its sixth straight to fall to 3-7 on the season.
Brudvig picked up two of WNE's four points with wins at No. 4 singles over Katie Schultz, 6-2, 6-2, and No. 2 doubles with senior co-captain Linda Mustafa against Erin Duffy/Lauren Bendall, 8-4
Sage's pair of junior Kirsten Ackerman and senior Nicole Riley triumphed 8-3 at No. 1 doubles as they beat freshmen Caleigh Curran and Joeanna Glantz The Gators tandem improves to 9-0 this fall with one another.
Western New England's other two points came from Glantz at No. 3 singles versus Duffy, winning in straight sets 7-6 (7-2), 6-2, and by Kelly Byrnes/Juliette Cormier over Julia Race/Schultz at No. 3 doubles, 8-1.Â
Sage's win was sealed by the three-set win at No. 6 singles by rookie Shanessa Mendoza, 2-6, 7-5, 10-5 beating freshman Corey St. Louis in a super-set tiebreaker.
