Box Score DUDLEY, Mass.--Freshman
Troy Remillard scored his first collegiate goal, and junior
Chad Burke recorded three points, as the Western New England University men's soccer team rallied twice to forge a hard-earned point on the road in Commonwealth Coast Conference play, tying Nichols College, 2-2, at Vendetti Field on Tuesday. Western New England is now 9-6-3 on the season, including 4-1-3 in overtime games, and 2-3-2 in the conference, while the Bison are 9-2-4 overall and 4-1-2 in the conference.
With the Golden Bears trailing 2-1 in the second half, Burke responded to freshman Rielee Mohsin's sixth goal 3 minutes and 32 seconds later by blasting a 30-yarder into the bottom right-corner of the net for the tying goal that would eventually force a pair of 10-minute extra sessions. In the 76th minute, Mohsin had broken away from the WNE defense and slid a shot by sophomore
Kevin Strobel into the lower-left part of the net. Sophomore David Melanson was credited with the assist on the play.
Senior captain Michael Perry potted his second goal of the season on penalty kick in the 11th minute for a 1-0 Nichols advantage. Mohsin was taken down in the penalty area by the Golden Bears, which led to Perry taking the spot-kick and placing it in the lower-right corner of the net.
The Golden Bears were led by Remillard with five shots, including his first career goal and collegiate points that tied it up 1-1 in the 60th minute when Burke sent in a cross from the left side that found Remillard's head. The Bison were led by Mohsin and junior Tiago Prazeres with five shots apiece.
Strobel stopped two shots on his way to moving to 9-6-3 this season. Nichols senior Jeremy Nash moves to 5-1-3 after making two saves.
Nichols was the only team that could get a shot off in either overtime period, finishing with three in each; however, the hosts couldn't get anything in the net. The WNE defense blocked down two Bison shots in the second overtime. The Bison also controlled the ball much of the first half despite being outshot by the Golden Bears, 9-5
