Amherst College Edges Golden Bears, 16-15, in Wild Game in Central Florida

Box Score CLERMONT, Fla.--The Western New England University men's lacrosse team dropped a 16-15 non-conference decision to Amherst College at the National Training Center on Tuesday evening. The Golden Bears fall to 1-5 while the Lord Jeffs improve to 4-1.

Adam Knapton led Western New England with a game-high five goals, followed by Colton Craig and Garrett Mullins with two apiece.

Three Lord Jeffs notched a hat trick including Dylan Park with four goals, and Devin Acton and Aaron Mathias added three apiece.

Amherst took a 4-1 lead after the first quarter, but WNE began the second with three unanswered goals--including a pair of man-up by Knapton and Craig--to tie it.

Amherst led 8-6 at halftime and neither team led by more than two goals in the second half. Charlie Gill put the Lord Jeffs ahead to stay, 15-14, with 14 minutes and 8 seconds remaining in the fourth.

Jesse DeLucca had five ground balls for the Golden Bears, and David Cedrone chipped in four.

Western New England begins a four-game homestand next Tuesday against nationally-ranked Tufts University at Golden Bear Stadium.
