Bard and Co. Use Strong Second Quarter to Cruise Past Saint Lawrence in Florida, 16-13

Box Score CLERMONT, Fla.--Sophomore Justin Bard scored three of his game-high five goals in the second quarter, when Western New England outscored St. Lawrence 6 to 1, to propel the Golden Bears past the Saints, 16-13, in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Monday evening at the National Training Center. Western New England improves to 3-3 on the season while the Saints lost their third-straight to drop to 2-3.

The Saints' Conor Healey led all players with seven points on two goals and five assists, and Jeremy Vautour pumped in three goals and two assists.

Sophomores Max Berteletti and Keegan Dudeck (2 assists, 3 points) scored insurance goals 47 seconds apart beginning with 1 minute and 1 second left in the game to account for the final margin of victory. Berteletti finished with career highs of four assists and six points.

After sophomore Frank Medlicott (2 goals, 3 ground balls) tallied a man-up goal on a feed from Berteletti to give WNE a 14-11 lead at the 10:15 mark of the fourth quarter, Vautour scored at 6:16 and Healey at 3:56 to pull the Saints within 14-13.

Senior Dan McKenna put WNE ahead for good, 5-4, with a man-up marker to begin the second quarter, igniting a five-goal outburst for the Golden Bears. Western New England led 10-5 going into the intermission.

St. Lawrence outscored the 'Bears 5-3 in the third quarter to pull within 13-10.

Also shining for WNE were junior David Cedrone, who won 21 of 29 faceoffs to play a key role in the team's possession game, and junior Patrick Dillon who registered a hat trick among four points.

St. Lawrence held leads of 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 in the first quarter before the teams ended the opening 15 minutes tied at four goals apiece.

Senior goalie and newly-minted Commonwealth Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week Brandon Body made 11 saves for the 'Bears, while Nick Ford had two saves in the first half and Andrew Butturini made one save in the second for the Saints.

The Saints had the statistical edge in the game except in faceoffs, outshooting the Golden Bears 37-32, gaining 19 ground balls to 15 for WNE and making only nine turnovers to 23 for the 'Bears.

Western New England went 3-for-4 in man-up situations; SLU, 2-for-3.
