Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HAVERHILL, Mass.--The Western New England University baseball team extending its winning streak to three games on Friday evening with a Commonwealth Coast Conference sweep of host Eastern Nazarene College at Trinity Stadium, taking the first game 5-3 and winning 3-2 in eight innings in the nightcap. Western New England improves to 5-8 on the season, including 2-2 in the CCC, while the Lions drop to 5-12 overall and 0-4 in the conference.

The Golden Bears scored four times in the top of the fifth inning of Game 1 to erase a 1-0 deficit. Sophomore Kyle Maglio started the rally with a run-scoring single to center field, bringing home junior Brett Morgan who led off with a pinch-hit walk. After a bunt single by junior Kevin Marciano, classmate T.J. Wyrebek had a double down the right field line to plate Maglio to make it 2-1. The next batter, junior Doug Milne hit a RBI-single to center to score Marciano--who had advanced on a wild pitch and Wyrebek's hit--from third base. Sophomore Daniel Morin capped the scoring with a run batted in on a fielder's choice to third.

Western New England outhit Eastern Nazarene 7 to 6. Marciano, Wyrebek (2 doubles) and Maglio contributed two hits apiece. Jeremy Wagner and his twin brother, Justin, claimed two hits each for the Lions, who led 1-0 after three innings on the first Wagner's RBI-single up the middle to score his brother who had led off with a double.

Sophomore Andrew Mulvey earned his first career win in a WNE uniform, throwing five innings. He allowed two runs, four hits and worked around three walks while striking out five Lions to tie a season high. Classmate Jacques Boilard pitched 2/3 scoreless innings to record a hold, and junior Matt Fedor chalked up his second save after giving up just an unearned run with a strikeout in 1-1/3 innings.

The Lions managed to score a run in each of the sixth and seventh innings, but the Golden Bears' bullpen didn't bend. Cameron Fiorentino scored on a 4-6-3 double-play and the Lions were still threatening after a walk, single and single loaded the bases. Fedor entered the contest and promptly induced Riley Sullivan into a groundout back to the pitcher for the third out and WNE escaped a major jam. Jeremy Wagner led off in the Lions' last at-bat and reached on a throwing error, eventually coming around to score on a groundout. Fedor got Pat Yee to foul out to the catcher to secure the victory.

In the second game, Morgan drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the eighth to force home Milne with the game-winning run.

In the bottom half of the frame, ENC could only get a single off against Fedor as he ended the game with a strikeout. On the evening, he allowed just one unearned run and a hit with two strikeouts in 2-1/3 innings while becoming the CCC leader with three saves on the season.

Wyrebek scored on a wild pitch to stake the Golden Bears to a 1-0 advantage in the opening frame and Marciano had a RBI-single to right field in the fifth to make it 2-0.

But the Lions pushed across two runs in the bottom of the fifth that would eventually force the contest into extra innings. Jeremy Wagner and Fiorentino had RBI-singles.

Marciano had two hits for WNE and Fiorentino for ENC in the second game.

The Golden Bears pitching staff gave a tremendous effort as junior starter Tom Mahoney (5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB) went six innings, getting six strikeouts. Boilard, a newcomer, earned his first career WNE win after throwing a scoreless seventh without surrendering a hit and getting a strikeout. Fedor came in to close it out.

The Golden Bears are expected to have their long-awaited home debut at 2 p.m. Saturday (weather permitting) against Roger Williams for a CCC doubleheader on Pat Ricci Field at Trelease Park.
