SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 2, 2016) - The No. 18 nationally ranked Western New England University men's lacrosse team utilized 11 different goal scorers and a stifling defensive effort to earn a decisive 18-4 victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Golden Bear Stadium.

Western New England (6-3, 2-0 CCC) was in control from the outset, leading Wentworth (1-8, 0-2 CCC) 4-0 after one quarter and 11-0 at halftime before cruising to victory with a 7-4 edge in the second half.

Sophomore goalie
Steven Kerr (Hopkinton, Mass.) made nine saves and allowed just two goals in his 45 minutes of action, while seniors
Jimmy Chase (Beverly, Mass.) and
Kyle Kane (Whitman, Mass.) split the final 15 minutes in the cage and stopped a combined four shots.

Western New England's balanced offensive effort featured 11 multi-point performers, led by senior
Jon Bota (Mahopac, N.Y.), who recorded four points with three goals and one assist. Junior
Frank Medlicott (Stanwood, Wash.) registered a hat trick, while senior
Patrick Dillon (Baldwin, N.Y.), junior
Justin Bard (Westfield, Mass.) and sophomore
Nick Sisoian (Duxbury, Mass.) finished with three points each.

Drew Trebbe (Wilbraham, Mass.) helped anchor the Golden Bear defense with a team-high five ground balls to go with two caused turnovers, and classmate
David Cedrone (Yantic, Conn.) went 5-for-7 in limited action at the faceoff X.

Alec Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) led Wentworth with two goals on a game-high 16 shots, while classmate
Tim Parlato (Needham, Mass.) junior
Mike Coakley (Flemington, N.J.) added one goal each. Parlato also scooped up a team-high six ground balls for the visitors.

Western New England held the advantage in shots on goal (26-17), ground balls (37-31), and faceoff wins (13-11) while going 24-for-28 on clear attempts and 2-for-2 in extra man opportunities. The Golden Bears thrived in man down situations, limiting Wentworth to just one goal in its nine extra man chances.

The Western New England defense, which shut out Salve Regina during the second half of its 13-4 victory on Thursday, kept the Leopards off the board until the 4:29 mark of the third quarter when the game was well in hand.

Both Western New England and Wentworth will be back in action on Wednesday, as the Golden Bears hit the road to take on Roger Williams at 7 p.m., and the Leopards return home to host Becker at 7:30. ÂÂ
