Joeanna Glantz, Morgan Schrader lead Golden Bears with wins in both singles and doubles competition
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 6, 2016) – The Western New England University women's tennis team opened its home slate with a 6-3 victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Volvo Outdoor Courts.
Top Performers
• Senior captain Joeanna Glantz (Agawam, Mass.) led the way for the Golden Bears, earning wins at both No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles.
• Freshman Morgan Schrader (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) continued the successful start to her collegiate career, coming out on top at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles. Schrader is 4-0 in both singles and doubles play through two matches this fall.
• Wentworth junior Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) notched a 6-3, 1-6, 8-6 victory over Western New England junior Lauren Sell (Milford, Conn.).
Game Review
• Glantz and junior Christina D'Agostino (Bohemia, N.Y.) gave the Golden Bears a 2-1 edge heading into singles play with their 9-7 win over the Wentworth duo of Briggs and junior Sam Webb (Duxbury, Mass.).
• Western New England senior captain Corey St. Louis (Groton, Conn.) opened singles action with a 7-6, 7-4, 6-4 victory over Leopards freshman Emma Jurkiewicz (Andover, Mass.) at No. 5, and Schrader followed with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph against Webb.
• Glantz clinched Western New England's win after defeating freshman Olivia DeLuca (Dracut, Mass.) by a 6-3, 6-2 score at No. 2 singles.

Western New England (2-0, 2-0 CCC) will look to keep its perfect record intact on Saturday, when Roger Williams visits Springfield for a conference contest at noon. Wentworth (0-3, 0-2 CCC) returns to action on Thursday afternoon at Rhode Island College.
