Hard-luck Western New England College falls to Franklin Piece for third one-goal loss of the season

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior forward Casey Goodell (Rochester, NH) scored the game-winner on a power play goal with 6:35 remaining as Franklin Pierce rallied for a 6-5 victory over Western New England College in a non-league contest Tuesday night (Nov. 24) at Smead Arena.

It was another heart-breaking loss for the Golden Bears who remain winless at 0-6-1 after dropping their third one-goal decision of the season. The Raven improved their record to 3-4-2.

Freshman forward Michael Carr (South Boston, MA) scored twice for the visitors, including the first goal of the game at the 7:42 mark of the opening period.

The Ravens led 2-0 until sophomore forward Mike Kaselouskas (East Longmeadow, MA) put WNEC on the board at 2:36 of the second period. Carr made it 3-1 with a goal exactly six minutes into the period.

Western New England College took the lead by scoring three unanswered goals, including the last two by sophomore forward Kory Grahl (San Diego, CA) that knotted the contest at 3-3 at 3:56 of the third period and a power play shot that gave the hosts their final lead at 4-3 at 6:58.

Franklin Pierce then tallied three straight times, including two on power play goals.

Sophomore defenseman Spencer Shumway (Amherst, MA) netted his first collegiate goal for the Golden Bears with 4:02 left to complete the scoring.

Grahl finished with two goals and an assist while Shumway and sophomore forward Rory Hansen (Noblesville, IN) each had a goal and assist. Graduate student defenseman Chris Gillman (Wingdale, NY) contributed two assists.

For Franklin Pierce, sophomore forward Anthony Chighisola (Whitman, MA) finished with a goal and two assists. Senior forward Phil LaBreck (Thornton, NH) had a goal and assist. Freshman forward Roscoe Sweeney (Falmouth, MA) handed out three assists.

Junior goalie Justin Richards (Somers, CT) made 30 saves for the Golden Bears while senior Jon Tuttle (Concord, NH) stopped 26 shots for the Ravens.
