Golden Bears pick up third victory in last four games

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (January 5, 2019) – The Western New England University ice hockey team utilized a three-goal third period to earn a 4-3 victory over Framingham State University on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Loring Arena.

Top Performers
Senior defenseman Eddie Rogers (St. Louis, Mo.) factored into two of Western New England's goals, as he scored his first of the season in the second period and assisted on the game-winner in the third.

Seniors Steve Beck (Milton, N.Y.) and Connor Graham (Norfolk, Mass.) and junior Andrew Green (Plainview, N.Y.) also found the back of the net for the Golden Bears, while junior netminder Kyle Carducci (Rocky Hill, Conn.) made 37 saves on 40 shots.

Framingham State received goals from sophomores Ryan Paul (Morgan, Vt.), Soren Colstrup (Owatonna, Minn.) and Brandon Hamner (Waltham, Mass.).

Game Review
Framingham State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just 3:14 into the opening period when Hamner tallied a power-play goal on a feed from junior Jack Sheehan (Norwood, Mass.).

Junior Tyler Hines (North Haven, Conn.) set up Rogers for the game-tying goal 6:45 into the second period, and the score remained knotted at 1-1 heading into the third.

After the Rams capitalized on another power play opportunity with Colstrup putting the home team up 2-1 just under five minutes into the third period, Western New England took control with a three-goal surge.

Green tied the game for the second time just 13 seconds later, and Beck gave the Golden Bears a 3-2 edge at the 6:25 mark with the help of assists from senior Carlos Ross (Brockport, N.Y.) and freshman Connor Geshan (Oakton, Va.).

Less than a minute later, Graham scored to cap the rally as Western New England claimed a 4-2 advantage.

Framingham State pulled to within one on Paul's power-play goal with 54 seconds remaining, but Carducci saved the Rams' final two attempts on net to preserve Western New England's win.

• Western New England outshot Framingham State 45-40, including 17-5 in the first period.
