A center, she had one of the greatest seasons in school history in 1979-80 averaging 20.8 points and 22.1 rebounds. Knapton also is the school's only two-time honoree on the Verizon (now GTE) Academic All-America Team. Knapton played second base in softball and compiled a .350 career batting average. She was the first .400 hitter in school history with a .437 average in 1980.
